Disc brakes!! That is one funny video.

  • claude cat

Quite a clean-out at OGE, Santomarita, Clarke, Meyer, Blythe, Howard, Weening & Mouris so far. It would have to be the biggest turnover in that squad since they came into being.

    • Neil

Wasn’t aware of Meyer or Howard. The former is certainly a surprise.

      • Sean

I haven’t heard of Cam leaving either. Howard will be though, hopefully he ends up with MTN or Drapac and not back in the NRS.

    • The squad was built to focus on stage wins and one day races. I think they are building a squad to aim for GCs with the Yates brothers but also keep a strong squad to support Gerrans and Matthews in their races.

    • Michele

Is Gerry Ryan getting good bang for his buck?

Yes, MM spent a couple of days in Pink at the Giro this year. But there weren’t too many mainstream media outlets picking up the story.

      Their wins this year:

10 – Caleb: Herald Sun Tour Stage Win x 2, Langkawi Stage Win x 2, Vuelta Ciclista a La Rioja, Tour de Korea Stage wins x 4 and GC
4 – Matthews: Paris-Nice Stage Win, Vuelta al Pais Vasco, Giro Stage Win, Tour de Suisse Stage Win
2 – Meyer: Herald Sun Tour Stage Win & GC
2 – Albasini: Tour of Romandie Stage Wins x 2
1 – Impey: South Africa ITT Champs
1 – Hepburn: Oceania ITT Champs
1 – Adam Yates: San Sebastian

      OGE: Giro TTT win

So, excluding the Giro TTT win, 21 victories for the year thus far. And it’s not hard to separate the wheat from the chaff with the quality of some of those wins.

Just 7 riders with wins for the year.

Massive shakeup is needed at the team. And I’m not referring to riders only.

      • Kieran Degan

With their budget it is wise to concentrate on fewer targets. This year has been slim picking, no surprise with Gerrans and Matthew being injured in key parts of the season. You may see fewer winners next year too. If they focus on Gerrans and Bling in the classics and the Yates/Chaves in the stage races and Ewan in the sprints. Building for the future (except Gerro). Risky though if the Yates brothers leave for Sky.

I’d love to see what Durbo can achieve. He has a great engine, I think he just needs a push in a certain direction and allow him to focus on that instead of doing hard KMs on the front.

        • Michele

In hindsight, it appears as if I’m being a little harsh. As at 8/8/2015, OGE are ranked 8th out of 17 WT teams.

Comfortably in front of Team Giant and Lotto Soudal. Perception / impressions are funny. I would’ve thought both of those teams would be ranked ‘higher’.

          • claude cat

Last year they finished 5th in the UCI rankings.
Still the Vuelta and Canadian & Lombardia classics to come (I’m not sure what shape Gerro is in to defend a fair few points from the two wins in Canada last year).

            • Dave

It’s only the individual classification which works on a rolling 52 week cycle with riders effectively defending their points, all the teams have their totals reset to zero when they line up for the Tour Down Under in January.

But nobody really cares. Big performances in the big televised races are worth far more than the fight for the mid-pack placings in the team rankings.

OGE is probably in the position now that their 2016 and 2017 squads for the Tour de France need to be geared towards lots of Europcar-style breakaways.

      • jules

they’ve been too reliant of Gerro for wins and his injuries this year have left them exposed

      • choppy

orica greenedge vs kristoff = whole squad vs individual = 21 vs 19 wins.

        poor year for OGE.

    • Kieran Degan

Just saw Dan Martin is leaving Garmin. He’d be a good acquisition.

      • Michele

Only complication with that is both he and Gerrans will have the same goals in March next year. But to have both at them in the finale of L-B-L might not be a bad thing.
I like Martin’s style of riding. He would be a good acquisition. I guess one could argue that he’ll chase opportunist stage wins at GTs etc. That’s been OGE modus operandi, along with TTT wins, up til now.

        • jules

there are enough Ardennes classics or similar to share around between Martin and Gerro. Amstel Gold, Fleche Wallone

      • claude cat

Fits the mold of a marquee signing they have hinted at, but would be too much of the same of what OGE already have.
IMO they need more climbing support. Perhaps Landa isn’t going to Sky after all?

        • Dave

Cavendish is out of contract, he’d be a better buy for OGE than Martin.

      • claude cat

        Martin off to Etixx-QS.

    • Dave

Those riders would seem to have managers who read the business pages.

Even though Orica extended through to the end of 2017 (right before the poor corporate performance saw the CEO out the door as quickly as an OGE rider attempting a HC climb) it would be foolish to bet on their future beyond the end of 2016 – the slowly collapsing Australian economy is probably not great for the caravan market either.

      • claude cat

Actually no, Jayco can’t build caravans fast enough right now. Huge boom market.
Haven’t they (GreenEdge) also got another major backer about to be signed up? That was the word on the street.

  • Tim

The High 5 girls seem to be doing well, the conditions look brutal. What a great opportunity they have earned since the AIS selection process detailed on CT earlier this year.

    • Dave

And it seems the AIS selection camp was actually quite relevant after all – there have been descriptions of such issues as navigational problems, an accommodation mixup, going without massages while crashed riders get attention, and so on.

I wonder if Chloe Hosking has any comment on this or if we’ll just hear crickets chirping?

  • 29k vert in one ride! Makes my standard 3k vert road loop feel a bit pedestrian…

  • _kw

Just my 2c but to me Cycliq with their constant uploads to Vimeo with notoriously dumb know-it-all video captions is nothing but annoying…
