Queen Of The Classics
I had a completely different post written for today until I woke up and realized that it’s Friday – two more sleeps until Paris Roubaix! It wouldn’t be right for my last blog post of the week not to convey my excitement for the best ProTour race of the year.
Ever since we witnessed Cancellara ride Boonen and Flecha off his wheel last week in the Belgian mini-classic E3 Prijs Vlaanderen-Harelbeke we knew there was going to be a clash of the titans between Sparticus and Tornado Tom. Cancellara was on great form and handily won Flanders last Sunday, but Paris-Roubaix is a different kind of race. It’s flat and there won’t be the same kinds of opportunities for Cancellara to get away. Cancellara is going well right now, but he’s often cocky enough to think that he can simply time trial away from his rivals (which he sometimes can). He’ll need to be smarter than that on Sunday if he wants to win his second P-R. The bookmakers put Cancellara on top followed by Boonen and Breschel. Big George just slides into the top 10 with the odds (great odds if you’re betting on a mechanical though)
Anyway, enough of my pre-Roubaix commentary. I really don’t know squat about pro cycling (I am an expert on looking PRO however).
If this doesn’t get you pumped up, nothing will:
If you want to take a virtual ride down some of the cobbles of P-R, then look no further:

If anyone can find the Google Street View of the Forest of Arenberg I’d love to see it. I’ve narrowed it down to somewhere around here.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the race!
