Tour Down Under – Cancer Council Classic

by CyclingTips

I’m off to Adelaide tomorrow morning for a week of riding and fun in the sun. After nearly a month of eating turkey dinners and staying indoors in Canada, I really need this! (I don’t expect any sympathy…)

I wasn’t able to attend the Cancer Council crit tonight, but thankfully SBS did a spectacular job at broadcasting it live. The rivalry between the sprinters that’s been built up in the media certainly made this exciting to watch. We saw a number of teams try to get their sprinters up there with their leadout trains and HTC was nowhere to be seen on the final two laps. As always with impeccable timing and skill, Mark Renshaw appears with Matty Goss on his wheel before the final corner (anticipating and dodging Team SKY’s crash I might add), and brings Gossy home for the win!  Can it get any better? Like I said, I can’t wait to get to Adelaide tomorrow…

Spectacular win by Goss, even better leadout by Renshaw

Perhaps this is the start of another internal HTC rivalry?

Ángel Madrazo, the 2011 TdU peloton cult hero has recovered from the flu and came in 104th in today’s stage. Watch out for him in #164. After today he says: “I have been impressed when I saw a group of sparrow shirts.Thank you very much!”
