SRAM Apex Hotlap Competition On Arthurs Seat!

While the rest of the world cycling calendar is coming to a close things are just beginning to heat up here in Australia. To me, the Sun Tour (or as the riders call it, the Fun Tour) always marks the beginning of the Australian cycling season and summer in general. Weather can still be unpredictable, but it always makes for interesting racing.

As many of you know I’ll be hosting “Bay 13” on Arthurs Seat this Saturday. I hope to see everyone there, and to make it interesting I have a competition for two lucky winners.

I’ve arranged with SRAM to get two spots in their race support convoy cars for Stage 4 on Arthurs Seat. The winners will be picked up at Bay 13 and get to ride a hot lap of the circuit and see the race from the best seats in the house. You’ll be right in the thick of the action.

Along with a couple hotlaps for 2 (separate) people in the race convoy, they’re also giving away a some SRAM Apex running gear (derailleur, 11-32 cassette, and chain) along with some free socks and waterbottle to the winners. Cha-ching!

What is SRAM Apex you ask? It’s a long reach derailleur which allows you to use a 11-32 cassette, which is basically a less expensive and easier way to get a similar gearing than buying a compact chainset or running triple cranks (not PRO). Think Tour of Bright, Mt Baw Baw or Strathford to Dargo. You get the picture. Contador even rode it on the mountain stages of this years Giro.

The Competition

To enter the competition you’ll need to do two things:

1. Guess the winner of stage 3 before Friday, at 11am (October 14, AEST). Enter your guess in the comments section of this post. I’ll close the comments section after 11am AEST on Friday. Starlist on cyclingnews

2. Enter your email address in your comment so I can get a hold of you. Not in your comment itself, but in the pop-up box email field which allows you to post your comment (see example below).

Example: enter your email address into the dialog box before you comment. You don't have to use your real name. Your email address will not be used for evil means

In the case of multiple people picking the same winner, I will randomly draw your names using a function in an excel spreadsheet.

In the case of no one picking the correct rider, I’ll choose from 2nd, 3rd, 4th… position until someone is declared the winner. The two winners will be announced tomorrow afternoon and also emailed directly.

If you’re unable to attend the hotlap from Bay 13, it is non-transferable. I will need to draw again. If I’m not contacted by the winner(s) by 7pm (AEST), Oct 14, I will need to draw again.

Stage 3 Details

Stage 3 begins in Geelong and heads out to the Ottway Ranges and come up a difficult 10km climb before the race comes back along the undulating Great Ocean Road. The forecast is calling for possible showers and crosswinds, so the race could easily be broken up and a break may stick. Into Drysdale is a deceivingly long drag to the finish where a power sprinter will dominate if the race comes down to a bunch kick.

Who’s it gonna be? You can find the starlist on cyclingnews.
