At the end of three weeks of racing there were 14 teams without stage wins and plenty of ambitions left to be filled. Yesterday I spoke about SKY’s less than exciting tactics to winning the yellow jersey, but in the final kilometer Cavendish put on a show of his own that filled the void. It was none other than Bradley Wiggins who started SKY’s lead-out and then Boasson Hagen put in a massive turn which helped Cav swallow up the last of the breakaway. It’s fireworks at the last possible moment like this that makes bike racing the spectacular sport that it is! Cavendish, 27, now equals Lance Armstrong and Andre Darrigade in fourth place of all-time rankings of Tour stage winners.
