There are many reasons why joining a tipping competition is a good idea. For a start, it gives you skin in the game. You’ll find yourself following the Spring Classics closer than you ever have before, checking to see who’s riding well, who’s not and crucially, how your riders have been going.
But your riders’ performances mean little on their own — the joy of the tipping competition is in the, well, competition. Whether that’s against your mates, people at your cycling club, your work colleagues, or even against the entire CyclingTips tipping pool, it’s always fun to get a bit competitive and (hopefully) work your way up the leaderboard.
Here’s how the competition works. You pick five riders per race, before the race starts. Bear in mind that you can’t pick the same rider more than once throughout the entire Spring Classics period, so you need to choose carefully. Reckon Spartacus will win on the cobbles of Roubaix? He might, but if you pick him for that race you won’t have him for any of the other races.
Here are the six races that we’ve included in our Spring Classics tipping comp:
- Ronde van Vlaanderen: Sunday April 6
- Scheldeprijs: Wednesday April 9
- Paris-Roubaix: Sunday April 13
- Amstel Gold Race: Sunday April 20
- Fleche Wallonne: Wednesday April 23
- Liege-Bastogne-Liege: Sunday April 27
The overall winner is the person whose tips add up to the lowest cumulative time at the end of April. If you forget to tip one day — don’t worry, it happens — we’ve got default tips for you. Alternatively plug in all your guesses at the start and let the Classics play out.
Keep in mind that the final startlist often isn’t confirmed until the day before the race, so we’ll send through a quick email reminder before each race to ensure you don’t miss out.
As well as the fun of the competition itself, we’ve also got a range of prizes on offer thanks to Santini. Here’s what you can win:
1st Prize: Santini winter clothing pack (RRP: $1,500)
2nd Prize: Santini runners up prize (RRP: $299)
3rd Prize: Santini runners up prize (RRP: $249)
