Rider reactions to dropping of Genting Highlands from Tour of Langkawi

One of the most distinctive landmarks of the Tour de Langkawi has been removed from the Tour of Langkawi with the always-crucial Genting Highlands climb being dropped by the organisers. As you can see, the rider’s reactions are mixed.

The official line from race organisers is that the climb was removed due to safety concerns because of heavy machinery and construction work being carried out to renovate the resort. The stage will now finish atop Fraser’s Hill, a shorter and gentler climb which will likely alter the dynamic of the race and the overall result.

It’s been suggested that that despite the official safety concern for dropping the climb from the race, the decision came after a failure of the race organiser to come to a sponsorship agreement with Genting Malaysia, who owns the road to the mountain top resort.
