    …gets popcorn…

  • FT27

The Mayor obviously not following the Giro :)

    • Michele

I think this dispels the suggestion that there isn’t anything wrong with AC’s shoulder. He reaction to being touch / patted on the shoulder was instinctive.

But to put the issue beyong doubt, let’s get Mike Tomalaris and a microphone over to Italy ASAP. The microphone won’t even need to be plugged in to confirm the extent of injury.

I also think that’s the last time Mayor Davide Aru will be given the opportunity to present a jersey at the Giro.

      • Dave

        Can I suggest a correction:
But to put the issue beyong doubt, let’s get Mike Tomalaris and a microphone over to Italy ASAP. The microphone would be better off if it was not plugged in.

Doesn’t just apply to sending him to Italy to whack AC.

On the other hand, Andrew Symonds could give it a fair workout…

  • Stompin

Oh no, Richie… TSssssshhhhhhhh… there goes his Giro

    • jules

you don’t give up first sign of a problem. Richie will fight on.

    • FT27

Never underestimate an Aussie with his/her back against the wall

      • jules

well, I can think of some I know who’d give up pretty easily.

  • Andy B

Someone needs to tell audi about Emonda

  • Stompin

Aru, meh… Astana shouldn’t even be there.

  • Michele

    I’ve got an idea everyone.

Let’s use the power of social media to get Richie his 2 minutes back.

I’ve already put a tweet up with the hastag of #giveRichieawheel

The tweet also contains an image of my two Lightweight wheels which I’ve left on the front door – in a symbolic gesture for Richie to use.I suggest you do the same.

This is going to go viral and become a world wide trend.

    What could possibly go wrong?

    • I’d love to see everyone give Richie a 2 minute lead as part of a protest…and then Richie attacks!

      • Dave

Nobody in their right mind would give a rider skilled up after many years of mentoring from Mr 60% that kind of latitude.

        • Conconi – The Original Master

Again, Dave. Sorry to correct you ….

Porte spent all of 2 years rider under Bjarne.

          Here’s a definition of Many:

          a large number of.

          “many people agreed with her”

synonyms:numerous, a great/good deal of, a lot of, a large/great number of, great quantities of, plenty of, countless, innumerable, scores of, crowds of,droves of, an army of, a horde of, a multitude of, a multiplicity of,multitudinous, numberless, multiple, untold

You got any other tricks aside from the Mr 60%??? [getting a little tiresome]

    • Andy B

Can you please disclose your address to assist

      • Michele

I can Andy. But just a warning: due to the Giro, I’m getting to work later and later each morning. This means I get home later and later as well. Should be home around 8 pm. This okay with you?

    • Dave

I’m sure the guy behind #putoutyourbats will be looking for a chunky royalty cheque.

    • jules

you shouldn’t leave such expensive wheels out like that, someone will steal them. i’ve swapped them with some old base level shimanos for you

    • FT27
      • Buckley

As much as this sucks for Porte (his race is far from over), I’m so sick of the modern hash tag activism thing. When it means something, ie ‘black lives matter’, hey, I can support that. But this is just sport, a particular sport where we habitually criticise decisions when they are made, or when they are not made, as eternally hypocritical or reflective of double standards.

        • FT27

I see where you’re coming from, but, a lot of it is simply done in a light hearted manner.

    • RickT

All the contenders for GC could swap a wheel and attract the same two minute penalty and thereby level the game again. It would merely negate the issue that was caused by insufficient course service during the race.

    • Callum Dwyer

      Are you joking?

  • Bex

Out of interest have we ever seen the rule 12.01.40 8.2 applied in any other race ever?

    • Robert Merkel

Yes, The Inner Ring mentioned a previous case at the 2009 Tour of Hainan:

Seems like there was more to it than a simple lending of a wheel, though; from the article:

““The truth is that from the outside this may appear to be bad luck for the rider, but it comes after many days of unsportsmanlike manoeuvres,” Ventoso said. “I won’t go into details, but … (Shpilevsky) had many irregularities of this kind throughout the week. Today was the straw that broke the camel’s back.””

Checking the results, it appears Jono Lovelock was there (hope that wasn’t the one where he had that horrible crash into the ditch…). Perhaps he can tell some of the story (hint hint)?

the jobs that are created through cycling, I wonder how many of them pay a sustainable wage; statistic is a great way to paint a picture, both true and false.

  • Larry Theobald

Regarding the AUDI bike piece – Colnago’s association with Ferrari is still going. Ad in current Bicisport shows bike posed in Maranello workshop

    • jules

I think you’ll find Ferrari got a life ban

  • PAolo

As bad as the 2min penalty was i also didn’t like how Porte could barely hold on to his team mates wheels despite not even doing a turn. Didn’t look like someone who can win the Giro or are the OGE wheels so s@#$?

  • Derek Maher

This Giro is sure interesting,Great raceing and rivalry,Lovely stages to test all the riders.Today a Russian had a superb stage win.Alberto was in fine fettle,Aru and Porte looked a little vunerable ?.
Racing regulations set the social media alight.Just a mild suggestion for some riders, carry a puncture kit or CO2 Bottle.
