Indoor bike training just got better. A collaboration between Zwift, TrainerRoad, Bkool and Kinomap resulted in the implementation of the ANT+ open communication protocol and TACX will be the first to use the protocol in their Smart trainers. This protocol, created by ANT+, enables communication with their software packages. On top of reading your speed, cadence and power, you may now control the resistance of smart trainers with software of third parties.

The reason behind all of this is that the more training software is being developed, which is happening right now, the more training options and kind of training sessions become available. You may now choose which software you want to use for your indoor bike training, which previously was not the case with ANT+ or Bluetooth.

Already the proud owner of a Smart trainer? You can upgrade it to ANT+ open protocol by downloading the free Utility app in the App store or Google Play store. This app upgrades the firmware of your Smart trainer. Your trainer learns the ANT+ FE-C language to be able to communicate with software that runs under the same protocol.
