Congrats to Wippert, he’s had a massive season and deserves a shot. He may actually give Cannondale some wins.

    • He may indeed. The question will be: where are most of Drapac’s wins going to come from in 2016? Last year Wippert accounted for 8 of the team’s 11 UCI wins. In 2015 he’s taken 5 of 8. Methinks they’re going to need to find another sprinter for next year. I wonder if someone like Marko Kump might be a decent fit?

Drapac have heaps of talent. the question may well just be posed to its current roster…

        • That’s certainly true. But who on the current list is going to step up and win five-10 races next year? The team has WorldTour ambitions in the next few years and in order to do that it needs to be winning a lot more races than it currently is. And big races too, like Wippert’s TDU win, say.

          • jules

Michael Drapac may have those ambitions and he’s certainly put his money where his mouth is for some time now. I have only respect for him. but I’d question how well shared those ambitions are across the team and rider list, given their lack of wins. I’d love them to do better but something’s not gelling.

I thought they had a good showing at the Tour of Utah, top 10 overall and final stage win from Lachlan Norris was one of their better performances and in an important market for the team.

            • Definitely. Lachy Norris has been knocking on the door for a long time and he rode a great race. That stage win was arguably as important to the team as Wippert’s TDU win back in January.

I’d reckon Brenton Jones will be pretty happy Wippert’s got a contract. He should go pretty well filling his shoes.

            • There’s no doubt Jones is a talented rider and he’ll only get better in the years to come. But I think he’ll struggle to notch up the number of wins Wippert has managed, at least in the short term.

I wonder if he will bother going world tour now that he’s being invited to US races.

      • Kieran Degan

        Is Matt Goss off contract?

        • Sean

Yep and that’s how it’ll remain.

      • Sean

Surely Leigh Howard will be riding with them next year.

        • Sean

Ohhh but he can no longer win races.

    • Andy Logan

Not holding my breath on that, will be interesting to see next year. Definitely deserves it though!

  • jules

Jenny please stop and clean the lens next time. TIA

    • Sean

Aside from the muck on the lens (not good enough Jenny!), it’s quite good racing, who have thought sheilas could ride so damn well. I’m off to Ella CT, I feel like i’ve just discovered a whole new sport I never knew existed.

I can’t remember being so engrossed in on board camera footage as I was with that sequence. CX may be well suited to it, because the challenges of the course and the other competitors are continual.

What are the UCI regulations on windscreen wipers on cameras?

      • jules

more than 2cm less than 5cm

  • Hamish Moffatt

Interesting video on the disc brakes, but it’s a pity they didn’t compare rim braking on aluminium braking surface rather than just carbon. And as for the comment “why wouldn’t you [get discs]”, ease of maintenance is one reason I can think of..

Are there transfer fees paid to teams when a rider (like Wippert) signs for a new team (like in football)?

    • Kieran Degan

I don’t think so. They were having a chat about it on the SBS cycling podcast the other day. It would be a good way to support the teams who develop riders.

    How good is this site?!?!?
I read through the digest earlier today at work, plus the other excellent stories such as TCR piece with Alain etc.

Now I’m about to settle down and watch some of the race highlights [had a busy weekend]. There’s nearly 3 hours of footage here. Brilliant!

  • De Mac

Loved the Elite Women’s CX Hot Lap – but even more, LOVED the Whoop-De-Doos on the course!!! Every childhood BMX-er knows what I mean!

    • winkybiker

Yes, great footage. The course looks very good, but not the prettiest place for a race, perhaps.
