GP Ouest France - Plouay 2015 women

Looking at the replays of the Boeckmans crash in the Vuelta I am amazed how the team cars and support vehicles push and squeeze past fallen riders. It looks very dangerous and shows a complete lack of respect for the riders and the bike race. Allan Van

It is a small point, but I find it staggering that Sagan got fined for having a bit of a shit-fit. I mean, he got hit by a freakin moto!

    • jules

I can understand why he was fined. I also understand why he went ape shit, but if you start indulging that behaviour, it will spread. I’d suggest the latter is the priority, probably fairly too.

      • Michele

I’m all for the behaviour Jules. Let Sagan go ape. Smash a few cars.
Might get these incidents into mainstream press and embarrass the toothless tiger, a.k.a. UCI to do something about this.

      • Jessy Vee

Sagan had second and third degree BURNS from the moto. I’d go apeshit too if I was in that kind of pain because of some stupid guy who can’t ride a moto.

        • jules

he arguably got his money’s worth for only 300 swiss francs :)

          • Jessy Vee

For 300 swiss francs, I’d had punched the guy. Hehe

  • Sean

Tom is going to be hard to beat.

  • jules

go Jack! nice work mate (I’m sure you’re reading of course)

    • muz

The actual winner of the race IMO.

  • Dumoulin! What a great win!

    • Andy B

Just watched this again.. just as exciting the second time
      Awesome stuff

  • Andy B

Proof White Knicks don’t look right on nobody

  • Kieran Degan

Now I’m not making any accusations, but when a Time Trialler mixes it with the climbers for a few days then beats a “doper” on a cat 1 finish, why aren’t we hearing any calls for his numbers to be released? Tall Poppy syndrome alive and well.

    • Andy B

The thought has passed through my head.. his form on those steep climbs seems a bit uncharacteristic from what I’ve seen of him in the past but to be fair he does have a pretty well rounded Palmares

    • Sean

At least he looked human doing it.

    • 42x16ss

Because he’s only done it once so far, and not on any HC mountains yet.
Unlike another certain rider, Dumoulin was a very talented U23 rider and has followed a relatively realistic development trajectory rather than just “happening” to stumble across world class climbing and TT prowess mere weeks before their contract expired.
Not having to hold on to a police moto, not crashing into commissaires, not zigzagging up climbs while getting smashed by the world class climber Simon Gerrans and not having a continuously shifting story on various maladies doesn’t hurt either.

      • 42x16ss

Oh, and not having the head of the UCI on the board of the team’s ownership company helps too…

I’m surprised tom is only 3kg heavier than another certain rider. Considering Toms history, surely it’s reasonable he is still in the mix on a 6KM climb. Seems like he could develop into being a very exciting rider, that attacking was relentless.

          • Shane Stokes

If you look at his palmares, he’s been riding well for quite a while. He’s also just 24, and so solid improvements are possible at a young age. Some speak about him as if he’s a pure time trialist, but his results thus far suggest he’s much more rounded than that.

            • Sean

Tom is the goods, no question there.

            • Wookie

Also notable is that he’s quite often in the lead group on a stage-ending climb, but doesn’t make the podium and so perhaps is overlooked. in fact it seems he’s been able to mix it with smaller lighter riders on climbs for quite a while…

  • Michele

A classy Banner photo for today’s DNG.
There’s some serious talent on that podium.
Oh, and the lack of podium boys certainly doesn’t detract from the image in any shape or form whatsoever.

    • Derek Maher

Got to hand it to those ladies.A super tough race and they still manage to look elegant and attractive on the podium.A great advert for ladies cycling.

  • Michele

I heard that Dan Martin didn’t leave Garmin for more money. Nor did he go to Etixx–Quick-Step for more/different opportunities.
Rather, it was the green POC stack-hat.

    • Andy B

Assuming he was missing the blue?

Well he does seem to use the helmet practically quite often. Makes perfect sense he’s consider his helmet. (Disclaimer – I’m Devastated POC stopped making them wear the seemingly “Spaceballs” inspired TT lids. They always made TT stages more entertaining)
