Frenchman Kevin Ledanois won the World Champion title for the U23 road race on Friday in Richmond, Virginia.

Ledanois, son of former professional rider Yvon Ledanois (currently a sports director at BMC Racing), beat Italian Simone Consonni and French teammate, Anthony Turgis, at the end of the 10-lap, 162.2-kilometre course.

Ledanois, 20 years of age, turned professional this year with the French squad Britain-Séché Environnement.

“Last year, I had attacked a lap too early. This time I took it upon myself to wait. When I saw it began to rain, I thought it was a chance,” said Ledanois.
