Great race and coverage, having not watched C7’s coverage before. Thank god this ain’t Argentina and the awful Tour de San Luis coverage. Seeing Robbie standing up backwards surveying the race situation in the finale was something else, probably not recommended behaviour but still, impressive balance.

You call ads every 10 mins including in the last 10km great coverage?

      • B2 (ABC TV)

Yes, you’re right. Perhaps I should’ve said ‘great coverage for a major, free to air, commercial network such as 7’. I like everyone else light a candle everyday in the hope SBS win the rights back to cover all the major races on the domestic calendar.

First it would be good for SBS to tell us all why they have locked down exclusive rights to all the UCI championship events but love the sport so much that they are refusing to show the CX championships, refusing to put the rights back on the market for someone else (even Foxtel) to show and refusing to allow the UCI Youtube live stream to be unblocked in Australia.

I too quite liked the broadcast, however going to ads for 2 – 3 minutes with 10km to go, including a flying downhill then a short, sharp decisive hill shows a distinct lack of understanding by Channel 7. Imagine if they went to 2 minutes ads with scores even and 10 minutes left in the AFL Grand Final, would be outrage! Didn’t really matter to he outcome but annoyed me after 4 hours of viewing

Any insights as to when Cav threw in the towel? Having ridden on those roads I figured there was no chance of him contesting the sprint, but a shame for the spectators.

  • Trick Dicky

I thought the coverage was excellent. Yes, too many ads but that’s always the case with commercial free to air – how many times have we seen a race from “flag to flag” live on TV? Kudos to all involved – good course evidenced by the variability in the top 10. Great racing by Kennaugh – dunno how he held off the pack the way he did: a good season ahead I hope.

I agree, best coverage of a race I’ve seen. Keenan is the best and the McEwen stream was superb. Complaining about ads on free to air is a bit pointless: we should be glad that advertisers see the value in bike races.

It’s official, you can be a Hubbard and race at elite level and finish! Well done Thomas.

Hopefully Leigh Howard’s ride is a sign of a good season, despite the frustration of not sprinting for the win.

Happy to see a European based rider win after the white wash of Aussie results in the TDU. Great result for local (Perth) kid Michael Storer. Have ridden in a local TT with this guy and he is a gun. I believe he is off to Europe this year but definitely one to watch.

Quality race, the whole thing was pretty attacking and great to see Kennaugh get another solo win, his win at the Dauphine Stage 1 was impressive but this was better.
