In the days leading up to the 2016 Liege-Bastogne-Liege, the weather forecast suggested riders were in for a challenging day out. Sure enough, as the race made its way around the Wallonia region of Belgium, heavy rain and snow lashed the course, making for a truly memorable edition of the season’s final Spring Classic.

Belgian cycling photographer Kristof Ramon was at the race and captured the images you can see below.

Conditions such as those seen at Sunday’s Liege-Bastogne-Liege make the job of a cycling photographer even more difficult than it already is. We caught up with Kristof Ramon to find out how he prepared for the horrible conditions at Sunday’s race, how the 2016 Liege-Bastogne-Liege compared to the similarly snow-affected 2013 edition of Milan-San Remo, and why tough conditions make a race like Liege so much more memorable.
