Greipel takes sprint win at Tour de Luxembourg

by CyclingTips

André Greipel (Lotto Soudal) continued his run of sprint victories, taking the first road stage of the Tour de Luxembourg. Adam Blythe (Tinkoff) and Amaury Capiot (Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise) rounded out the podium.

The expectation for a field sprint was quite evident, as only three riders even attempted a breakaway and then only managed a maximum gap of a few minutes.

BMC controlled the gap early but soon had help from sprinter’s teams like Lotto Soudal and Orica-GreenEdge.

The win gives Griepel the green sprinter’s jersey while race leader Jean-Pierre Drucker (BMC) finished in the field and retained his overall lead.

Friday’s 162.8km from Rosport to Schifflange finishes on the Col de Schifflange, a short climb but with a gradient of up to 17 percent.

Gilbert to join Astana and suddenly become awesome again.

    • jules

or maybe become awesome over the next few months he’s still with BMC and negotiating a contract with Astana

    • Arfy

Awesome at being a foil for Sagan perhaps?

    • Dave

Could be a good target for Trek if they can’t get Sagan.

  • MadBlack

So why would you post a Belgian TV interview without subtitles on an Australian website???

    • If you click on the CC button at the bottom of the video the subtitles will show.

      • MadBlack

Thanks Matt, my apologies. I learned something today!

  • jules

that MTB incident reminds me of a couple of falls riding Yarra Trails near the Boullie. long way down at some points. not that I’d know :)

    • Sean parker

Reminds me of the time that, at night, I nearly rode off a bridge under construction. One of my near ‘darwin awards’ moments.

  • Laurens

Of course in your spare time you can wear whatever you want, but Sagan is not an MTB world champion…

    • Sean

Good call, i’m sure committing this sin will cost him a lot of fans and rightly so.

      • Laurens

I would be very surprised if he had any fans left after that to be honest.

        • Scott

Isn’t another rider in the pic also wearing a World Champion Jersey? Will the real MTB World champion please stand up?

    • Dave

That he can just get away with, but the 3/4 length tights should be killed with fire.

  • velocite

I am so pleased for that Utah mountain biker. Terrific that the episode was captured on video. I know I have done things that immediately afterwards were clearly ill-judged. I’m a dickhead too!

  • Dave

I didn’t know that Cycling Australia supplied the commissaires for the Tour of Ukraine.

Good on them for helping out a country so far away!

    • jules

      harsh, very harsh!
