Shout out to Dan Craven who was invited to compete at the last minute and did so on his road bike in his normal gear. That’s what cycling’s about!

(also congrats Fabian, what a way to retire)

Dan seems an awesome character, and his TT participation is a great story. But that beard……..

  • Dave

The true definition of a people’s champion!

Very pleased for Dumoulin after a tough run into the race.

Bad luck for Dennis, but he’ll be back for Tokyo.

    • jules

that’s not bad luck. slipping bar extensions is what you see at club races a lot. whoever did the spanner twirling for Dennis needs to find a new job

      • Dave

Well yes, but for him it’s still bad luck that the team mechanic picked his bike to stuff up with.

It would be interesting to find out which mechanics were handling the road team bikes – were they OBE mechanics who didn’t know what to do with a BMC bike, or CA track mechanics who did a rush job on everything because they used up lots of time watching YouTube videos on how to adjust brakes and derailleurs?

        • jules

I don’t know but tightening the clamps on bar extensions is not exactly the pinnacle of race bike mechanics. I bet if they’d given them a good yank they’d have slipped (i.e. someone who wasn’t Rohan Dennis in the middle of his race), so they probably didn’t then. Not good.

Someone is definitely getting their arse kicked right now.

They should be named and shamed.

          • winkybiker

Shim them with bits cut from coke cans if they slip. That’s the proven method. (More mature students of the sport will know what I’m talking about)

        • James_Casper

          Good point.

      • James_Casper

It is bad luck for Dennis.

Last time I checked the AUS squad used mechanics. His bar slipping was not of his doing.

  • Hamish Moffatt

Hopp Schweiz. Incredible result for Fabian. Congratulations to him.

  • Andy B

    Great Performance by Cancellera!

On a side note were there any motor checks at the Olympics?

    • Dave

      Yes, every bike.

    • James_Casper

      Brilliant ride.

  • MJ

Very disappointing Ride by Kiryienka as current world champ. Bearing in mind his size, you would have thought the hills wouldn’t have hindered him (compared to the likes of Martin, Damoulin, Cancellara). He doesn’t seem to have done anything TT wise since being WC…

  • bigdo

Nice! definitely nothing to sneeze at when you beat Froome…

His last one- maybe reffering to his last olympics?
