Fournier wins photo finish in Route de France, stage 3

by CyclingTips

Roxane Fournier (Poitou-Charentes.Futuroscope.86) won the second stage of the Route de France, narrowly beating Floortje Mackaij (Team Liv-Plantur) in a field sprint. This is Mackaij’s second runner-up finish in as many days. Chloe Hosking (Wiggle High5) finished third.

The flat but technical course was made more challenging with a lot of wind, causing a split in the peloton. 43 riders made the selection including many of the overall favourites, and stayed away for the finish.

Amy Pieters (Wiggle High5) remains in the overall lead.

Janneke Ensing (Parkhotel Valkenburg) takes the first QOM jersey of the race.

I wonder if Craven will live-tweet the TT tonight.

    • Gavin Adkins

Apparently he is a late call-up, does not have a TT bike and is riding a standard road bike. It’s going to be the highlight for me.

      • Dave

I’m sure he could drop past the Aussie pits for some BMC gear.

      • jules

surely he can get some clip-on bars?

        • Dave

At least it’s not too bad a course to be taking on with a regular road bike. I wonder how many bike swaps we’ll see?

        • Gavin Adkins

Spinaci bars would be so awesome

          • Dave

And spinach bars if he gets hungry during the race ;-)

  • Neil_Robinson

australian womens team pursuit, not team sprint

  • James_Casper

Leslie Jones …. In these PC times, didn’t Mara Abbott show great sportswomanship?

  • James_Casper

Chris Boardman is 100% right in his comments.

Yes, accidents are going to occur. The safety precautions taken on parts of that descent were akin to F1 in the late 70s.

    • Chris

      What safety precautions?

  • Berne Shaw

    Boardman is totally correct
