Today’s breakaway group of four was the biggest of the Tour Down Under thus far. The quartet got up the road as BMC, Orica-Scott and others controlled the pace in the peloton. It was always going to be a sprint finish, and that’s exactly how it played out.

The forecast suggested thunderstorms and heavy rain might interfere with hopes of a clean finish, but in the end the cycling gods played nice and the weather was fine all the way to Victor Harbor. The breakaway was caught, including the lone escapee who made a late dash from the lead group in search of glory.

A crash inside the final 3km disrupted the sprint trains and brought several riders to ground, but in the end the best sprinter won. See below for photos from stage 3 of the 2017 Tour Down Under.
