Don’t miss out on the latest CyclingTips updates.
We’re thrilled to finally present to you, Thereabouts 3: Discovering Colombia. We’re extremely proud of being a part of bringing this to life and the work that everyone did to tell this story.
All of the Thereabouts films have been feature length productions done off the backs of industry favours, however this one was largely funded by the generous backing of our Kickstarter campaign. WhereNext Films took on the enormous task of planning, coordinating, shooting, editing and putting this film together in a short amount of time. In collaboration with Gus and Lachlan Morton’s vision and creative input, Thereabouts 3 is finally born.
Thank you to Scott Bikes for their generous support of this project, all of our Kickstarters (watch for your names in the credits!), WhereNext Films (in particular director Gregg Bleakney, and producer Lies Wijnterp), and of course Gus and Lachlan Morton whose vision and hard work brought this to fruition.
We hope you enjoy it.
About Thereabouts 3: Discovering Colombia
As an U23 rider Lachlan Morton was touted as the “next big thing” in Australian cycling and no-one was surprised when he secured a contract with World Tour team Garmin-Sharp at the start of 2013. After two years at the highest level of racing, Lachlan was struggling to find the motivation to deliver on his early promise and eventually walked away from the sport.
After many months away from racing, he re-discovered his love of riding which he documented with his brother Angus in what they labled ‘Thereabouts‘.
This ‘back to basics’ approach also reignited Gus’ love for the sport which he quit far too soon. The brothers lined up a contract with US domestic squad Jelly Belly-Maxxis in 2016 and had a great time racing together. This fresh perspective on riding and racing resulted in Lachlan taking out the Tour of Utah in a dramatic win.
Going into 2017, Lachlan earned himself another shot at the World Tour after signing with Dimension Data. But before he took that step, the Morton brothers wanted satisfy their desire to keep exploring.
In Thereabouts 3, Gus and Lachy explore the difficult riding and the amazing cycling culture of Colombia which has produced some of the finest road cyclists of past and modern eras. It also progresses their own personal story of how the two brothers have come back to race professional together and how Lachy is now taking the step back up to the World Tour.
