Video: Marianne Vos and Alexis Ryan on why they ride

Don’t miss out on the latest CyclingTips updates.

The start of the Women’s WorldTour is looming and in anticipation, the UCI is producing some neat short videos on some of the peloton’s leading women. Exploring the questions of why they race and what draws them to cycling, here are the first two spotlights:

“It’s complete chaos and I relish in that chaos because anything can happen. You have to go to hell and back. You dedicate your whole life to this moment and it could just be taken away because you get a flat…The person who has won has destroyed themselves to win and so you have overcome not just the process of training but you’ve beat luck itself.”

– Alexis Ryan, 22, Canyon-SRAM

“I have always been a shy and quiet girl and with cycling I knew how to express to other people who I am…In cycling I found the love for competition. Races will be made in one single moment, and you have to trust in that instinct to go and go for the win and that’s the beauty of cycling, all the effort you put in is for those 10-20 seconds of crossing the line.”

– Marianne Vos, 29, WM3 Pro Cycling
