British Cycling funding under threat

by CyclingTips

Sport England’s board, which distributes public and lottery monies to grassroots sport, is expected to push for further changes within British Cycling as it is embroiled in several controversies.

The Times reports that some Sport England directors are going to demand changes at the top before agreeing to release the £17.3 million funding after the Cycling Independent Review called into “serious question whether the composition of the British Cycling Board is fit to govern a national sporting body”.

The governing body’s leadership has changed recently with Jonathan Browning taking over the chairmanship, and could result in a very short tenure.

Both Sport England and UK Sport officially supported Browning’s appointment last month, but he was a member of the board which, according to the CIR’s draft report, sanitised the findings of its own internal investigation.

The independent investigation report is still in draft form, but a leaked version is a damning criticism of British Cycling and also criticises UK Sport.

Col de la Sarenne is a beautiful way up there, it gets really narrow before they hit the last part of Alpe D’huez, beautiful road.

  • Thanks for featuring the FWDSET: Movement video guys. Appreciate it!

those confrontations are really disturbing. I’ve been involved in a few. they seem to be fuelled by some people’s burning desire to impress the ‘fact’ that motorists are the dominant road user group. the idea of sharing the road with vulnerable cyclists somehow causes a burning rage deep inside of them. it’s clearly not the 3 second delay, it’s something more primeval.
