Meet the Crew: Torcasino
What do you do when not riding?
When I am not riding I am usually eating. Growing up in an Italian family means that food was always the centre of all social interactions. Sharing great food with family and friends is one of my most favourite things to do when not riding.
Whilst he is no longer racing Fabian Cancellara would have to be one of my favourites! When I started riding I heard so much about the adventures of Spartacus and his many Spring Classics wins. The deal was sealed when I was in Belgium(2014) and witnessed him win the Tour of Flanders for the 3rd consecutive year. Go Spartacus!
Current bike rack:
I have 4 bikes currently in my bike rack. My first bike “Pearl” is a Trek Crockett who has undergone many upgrades and is now used for racing CX and gravel grinds. “Mercedes” (named after a member of an all girl punk band, not the car) is my roadie. She is a Trek Emonda SL 6, matt black with anodised pink details including some gorgeous Chris King hubs. “Shirley” is the work horse, my trusty commuter. She is a Surly Straggler, generally awesome and covered in purple glitter. Lucky last is “Big Boo”. She is a Trek Superfly Hardtail 29er and has taken me on many sensational adventures.
The dream N+1 is a:
Vintage Italian steel framed bike in a candy apple red with Campagnolo parts. The only purpose of this bike would be to look good when I am rolling to the coffee or gelato shop. Bellissimo!
What is your favourite Velominati or cycling ‘rule’ to break?
Rule #29 No European Posterior Man-Satchels. There is nothing worse than an overstuffed jersey. I am a huge fan of my Road Runner Saddle roll, holds everything I need and still looks great.
Where would you take the VeloClub #lunchbunch in your neck of the woods?
I am totally in love with Melbourne so I think the #lunchbunch would take advantage of some of the local bike paths including the Merri Creek Trail, Capital City Trail and Moonee Ponds Creek Trail. Best thing, you are never far away from a cafe.
Where should we be planning the next VeloClub summit (junket)?
The next VeloClub summit should definitely be set in the Italian Dolomites. Home base could be the picturesque town of Canazei, a quaint little town surrounded by amazing mountain passes.
Your earliest cycling memory:
My earliest memories of riding a bike take me back to my parents beach house. My sister and I would do laps of the street for hours, with a playing card pegged to the frame so that the card hit the spokes making it sound like a motorbike! We thought we were so cool!
