What is your favourite Velominati or cycling ‘rule’ to break?
Definitely Rule 52’s one bidon on rides under 2 hours rule. I live in Adelaide, which means multiple 40+ degree days in the summer. Two bidons are essential for a ride of any length. I get dehydrated just thinking about going up to two hours on one small bidon.
Where would you take the VeloClub #lunchbunch in your neck of the woods?
There are so many options around Adelaide. For a good #lunchbunch I’d take us up Mt Osmond (Beaumont Side). A nice steep climb super close to the city with amazing views. Plus if you’re feeling adventurous there are a couple of gravel/dirt walking tracks at the top that you can explore. Then you can bomb it back into the city for a coffee and bagel at SAD Café.
Where should we be planning the next VeloClub summit (junket)?
If not Adelaide, then Borg d’Oisans in the French Alps. A lot of the best climbs from the Tour de France are within riding distance. I’m thinking long days in the saddle with plenty of vert, then plenty of beers in the evenings. We’ll just need someone to bring an AeroPress to make up for the terrible French coffee.
Your earliest cycling memory:
I remember I had a great little red bike that I used to do laps around the house on. One of the first things I remember about that bike was asking my dad to take the training wheels off, crashing, then asking him to put them straight back on (Rule 5 anyone?).
