Welcome to the new CyclingTips Podcast — let’s call it v2.0 — a revamped weekly show with hosts Caley Fretz, Neal Rogers, James Huang, as well as CyclingTips editors from around the globe. Every week, we’ll bring you big, beautiful, emotional stories, insider tech knowledge and tips, unique interviews, and much more.
This week, Caley, Neal, and James dig into the recent motor-doping accusation between Phil Gaimon and Fabian Cancellara, which could be headed for a courtroom. We found a lawyer of our own and asked him whether Gaimon is truly in hot water over a passage in his book that says Cancellara “probably did have a motor.”
Next we hear from Neal and Mathieu Van der Poel. One of them is writing a big feature to be published soon, the other is a prolific winner at age 22, a once-in-a-generation talent. Is MVDP the next Peter Sagan — or perhaps even a future Grand Tour contender? His potential seems without limit, which is half the fun in watching him race.
Finally, James does the math on 1x drivetrains following the news that pro team Aqua Blue will ride without front derailleurs at the highest level of road racing next year. How will they make it work? Let’s just say 12-speed road drivetrains may not be too far away.
