Riders, team staff, and media in Abu Dhabi for the UAE Tour remain confined to their respective hotels while awaiting word on the results of medical checks for coronavirus.

The race was called off in the early hours of Friday morning after two members of team staff tested positive for the virus.

Among the marquee names in the United Arab Emirates this week for the race are Chris Froome (Ineos), Alejandro Valverde (Movistar), Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal), Dylan Greoenewegen (Jumbo-Visma), Tadej Pogacar (UAE-Team Emirates), and Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott), who stood atop the GC leaderboard when the results of the fifth stage were declared the final standings for the event.

Medical personnel began testing riders and staff at their hotel overnight, conducting checks on one team after another. Following the apparent conclusion of those tests, testers arrived at the hotel where members of the media are staying to begin checks.

Those participating in or following the race are now awaiting results or further information on next steps. CyclingTips understands that some race participants have already received word of their results, but the timeline for the process to be completed remains unclear.
