A string of COVID-19 positives has removed Tibco-Silicon Valley Bank and Bizkaia-Durango from the Giro Donne.
Bizkaia Durango was down to one rider after the individual time trial on stage 4, where four riders from the team were unable to finish within the time cut. The sixth team member withdrew from the Giro Donne ahead of the seventh stage due to a positive COVID-19 result within the team.
“In the last hours a positive case of COVID-19 has been detected within the Bizkaia-Durango team that has been present in the Giro d’Italia Donne,” the team said in a statement before the start of stage 7.
Tibco-SVB pulled their whole team on the morning of the eighth stage after one member tested positive for COVID-19.
“We have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Giro Donne, following a positive COVID-19 test,” the American team announced on Friday. “We are sad to leave the race, but feel that this is the most responsible course of action in this situation.”
Kristen Faulkner was Tibco-SVB’s highest placed rider at 25th, 13 minutes and 47 seconds down from Anna van der Breggen (SD Worx).
