The UCI announced on Wednesday that multiple WorldTour-level events have been cancelled for 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The BEMER Cyclassics, the men’s and women’s Tours of Guangxi races, and the Tour of Chongming Island have all been called off.
The BEMER Cyclassics – the one-day men’s WorldTour race in Hamburg, Germany, formerly known as the EuroEyes Cyclassics – was set to take place on August 22. The men’s Tour of Guangxi stage race was slated to run from October 14 to 19, while on the Women’s WorldTour side, the Tour of Chongming Island was scheduled from October 14 to 16 with the one-day Tour of Guangxi event originally planned for October 19.
In its statement, the UCI said that the cancelled events are set to return to their respective WorldTour calendars in the coming year.
As for this season, however, the cancellations leave the both the men’s and women’s WorldTour calendars with seven events remaining in 2021, taking into account other cancellations on both schedules.
