Lucinda Brand took her fifth World Cup win of the season on Sunday in Dendermonde, Belgium, hitting the line four seconds ahead of Clara Honsinger, with Denise Betsema taking third on the day.

Brand attacked a select group in a muddy stretch on the third lap and then opened up a gap on the field. Betsema initially pushed the pursuit, but Honsinger passed her in the fourth lap. From there, the 24-year-old American would bring Brand’s gap down considerably – but she could not quite catch the world champion.

Brand held on to take the narrow victory over Honsinger, thus extending her overall series lead. For Honsinger, meanwhile, the runner-up ride was her best performance of the season so far. Betsema rounded out the overall podium, 36 seconds down on the day.
