Clinica Universidad del La Sabana have dubbed Egan Bernal’s second spinal surgery in 10 days a success. Bernal himself updated his social media followers on Wednesday stating, “I had my last major surgery yesterday and it seems everything went well. So now to recover and make this another one…I’M BACK.”

The hospital in Bogota stated there had been no complications during the surgery on the cervical section of Bernal’s spine. They also said the objectives of the surgery were achieved, “with excellent clinical results.”

Bernal will remain in the hospital for post-operative observation.

The Giro d’Italia champion was rushed to the hospital following a training crash in late January. Since the accident, Bernal has undergone three surgeries, two on his spine and one for fractures to his femur and kneecap.

The full extent of Bernal’s injuries?

“Almost 20 broken bones. 11 ribs. Femur. Ball joint. T5-T6. Odontoids. Metacarpal. A thumb. I dropped a tooth. Perforation of both lungs.”
