The first monument of the season – and the longest – has been run and won in emphatic fashion by Matej Mohorič (Bahrain-Victorious).
Like a steadily building wave, the momentum of the race built over 280 kilometres before the peloton, stretched into a long line, hit the base of the Poggio. From there, it was attack after attack, a spellbinding descent, and champagne showers.
Throughout the race, there were thousands of pictures taken by dozens of photographers. For this gallery, we decided to cut through the noise to present just 12 pictures that showcase the beauty and story of the day.
