Preview: What you need to know about stage 16 of the 2022 Vuelta a España

The sprinters' last chance before Madrid.

by Matt de Neef

Date: Tuesday September 6
Start: Sanlúcar de Barrameda
Finish: Tomares
Distance: 189.4 km

The riders come back from their final rest day to what will be a greatly appreciated easy day. There are a few small lumps in the final kilometres but this will end in a bunch sprint.

A reward for the fast men after a weekend of climbing (and before more hills and mountains to come). Can Pascal Ackermann or Danny van Poppel finally prosper? Can Mads Pedersen double-up after he romped to victory last week? It’s our penultimate second-to-last Grand Tour sprint stage of the year so don’t sleep through it.

Who’s it for: The sprinters, in what will be their final chance of victory before the final stage in Madrid.
