Fancy joining a friend or pro for a virtual ride along a Japanese coastline? Well, you’re in luck. Zwift’s latest update adds the Urukazi (woo-roo-kah-zi) expansion to Makuri Islands and sees the return of the “Join a Zwifter” option.

“Urukazi” is the combination of two Okinawan words: “uru” which means “shore,” and “kazi” meaning “breeze.” Zwift says “the combination of the two words is meant to evoke the serene, untouched character of the Southern Japanese archipelago.” Zwift designed the new Urukazi map to offer a “Zwifty interpretation” of those islands’ scenery.

The new Urukazi roads are the latest expansion to the Makuri Islands world and build on the Neokyo expansion unveiled this time last year. The new addition takes Zwifters from cityscapes to the country and now onto the coast. Furthermore, the Urukazi map offers eight new routes (listed below) to ride and expands the Makuri Islands world to now offer over 40 miles / 64 km of pavement, gravel, and a new type of surface not yet found anywhere else on Zwift.

You can enter Urukazi directly through a paddock, or head south from Yumezi through a canyon, or explore a cave system on your way from Neokyo. Arriving in Urukazi, riders are greeted by gravel roads along the shore and lush flora.

The previously popular “Join a Zwifter” option had disappeared of late but makes a return with this latest update. Simply choose a rider and select “Join a Zwifter” within the home screen menu before starting a ride. You can now join a friend or pro on their in-progress ride directly from the home screen.

The latest update also sees changes to HoloReplays which will now record during more situations, such as during solo workouts and races. Playback will still be limited to free ride activities until a later date when all activity playback is enabled.

Lastly, Zwift has also improved Apple TV remote interactions on the training plan and save screens.
