Queen of the Mountain’s Amina Kit

by VeloClub

Queen of the Mountain is a small, Brisbane-based brand founded by two friends –Amy Lukritz and Seb Mitaros –who love adventuring together and who set out to empower other women to do the same while feeling and looking good.

They believe that all women should feel comfortable, strong and confident while on a bike, but that uncomfortable and/or unflattering apparel often gets in the way of that.

When it came to cycling, they found that their needs simply weren’t being met. They wanted high quality yet fashion-forward and fairly priced apparel that makes riders look good and feel great, and so they set out to meet their own needs. To do this, they turned to Cuore.

The Swiss-based apparel manufacturer, Cuore (pronounced ‘Quo-Rey’) has been around for over 25 years and is perhaps best known for outfitting IAM Cycling, Team USA (before Assos scored the contract) and Strava. Their custom product line is extensive and business is rapidly growing. We, CyclingTips, are fans and use them for our own kits as well.

Kit with an empowering message.

“We wanted cycling kit made for women, none of this ‘shrink it pink it’ stuff’,” Lukritz and Mitaros said as to why they chose Cuore. “Sadly, we have all experienced a bad chamois and never wish to visit that dark place again. Knowing Cuore had a choice of three women-specific chamois certainly took us to a happy place.”

“Second on the list, and the toughest box to tick, was ‘jersey fit’. We are women who ride with other women and we listen to the post ride chitchat. We come in all shapes and sizes, and we all have our likes and dislikes when it comes to the performance of our cycling jerseys.”

And so QOM was drawn to Cuore’s offering of both an ‘original’ and a ‘sport’ fit as well as their large range of sizes, spanning XL all the way down to XXS.

When it comes to their offering of products, QOM’s philosophy is simple and one that’s easy to get behind: we are women, we ride bikes and we all deserve awesome cycling kit.

Where QOM makes the kit their own is in the designs. They currently have seven different kits on the market, all with colourful patterns, sold through their online shop.

Cuore’s leg grippers are some of the most comfortable and flattering bands on the market.

I received the “Amina” design, which is a little toned down from some of their other designs, and I am a fan. I am a sucker for asymmetry and bright colours on a black base. The Amina design uses both to great effect. The diagonal lines are flattering and the pink and blue are feminine without being girly.

Cuore’s ‘sport’ fit jersey is performance-oriented and features a form-fitting cut with textured technical fabric that is wicking, breathable and quick drying.  The jersey sports a full length ‘hidden’ zipper, a silicone gripper waistband, and three full sized back pockets and one zippered pocket for valuables.

The bibs feature a 22cm inseam, included a 5cm wide gripper band. While not the widest, Cuore, in my opinion, makes some of the best gripper bands on the market. They effectively keep the bibs in place without being too snug and creating that sausage look. The chamois are well padded and ready for a long day in the saddle. The fabric is made of 100 percent polyester and, however comfortable, does not offer a whole lot of compression, which means that if you prefer a tight fit, you may want to size down.

Why we like it:
QOM uses their own flattering and fun designs and pairs it with Cuore’s proven, quality kit.
