45 more athletes from Beijing, London Olympic test positive

The International Olympic Committee announced on Friday morning that a second round of retesting of samples from the Beijing and London Olympics has produced 45 more positives. 30 of the failures were from 2008 and 15 from 2012.

The first wave of re-tests resulted in 53 athletes testing positive, with the total now up to 98.

The IOC has not released names or specific sports of the latest positives, due to the requirement to inform the athletes of the positives. However, the IOC reported that 23 of the 30 athletes who failed tests from 2008 in the latest wave won medals.

“The new reanalysis once again shows the commitment of the IOC in the fight against doping,” IOC president Thomas Bach said in a statement.

1,243 samples from Beijing and London have been retested so far.
