Alex Dowsett will attempt to regain the UCI hour record from Bradley Wiggins. Dowsett set a record-setting distance of 52.937km in Manchester in May 2015, but Wiggins surpassed that distance only a month later with a new record of 54.526km.
The multiple-time British national time trial champion said his attempt will again take place at the Manchester velodrome, sometime early next year before the Giro d’Italia.
“Nothing’s confirmed just yet, but we’re working towards it. It’s got its challenges – just putting it on, getting everything together. We can’t announce anything confirmed but it is something we’re working towards,” Dowsett said.
The 28-year-old said he felt that he played his previous attempt too conservatively and wants to give a full effort in his next attempt.
“Before Wiggins broke my record I was like ‘we need to go again because that wasn’t what I can do.’ We will approach it in the same way we did last time; no egos, no trying to show just how great we are. It’ll be about breaking the record.”
