Alexandre Geniez (Ag2r La Mondiale) has led from start to finish at the Tour Cycliste International La Provence, the Frenchman winning the prologue then defending his lead for three road stages.
After finishing third in last year’s edition of the race, Geniez took a two-second advantage into stage 1 and maintained that lead as Christophe Laporte (Cofidis) won the bunch sprint. Geniez finished in the lead group of eight as Rémy Di Gregorio (Delko Marseille) won on the uphill finish to stage 2. In doing so Geniez extended his lead to five seconds. And then in the final stage Geniez finished safely in the bunch as Laporte won another bunch sprint.
The win gives Geniez three wins for the year already, after taking out the one-day Grand Prix Cycliste la Marseillaise in late January.
