Asgreen takes stage 1 of Tour de l’Avenir

by VeloClub

Kasper Asgreen (Denmark) outmanoeuvred the sprinters on stage one of the Tour de l’Avenir on Friday, winning the 134 kilometre stage starting and finishing in Loudéac. He hit the line four seconds clear of a large group led in by Kristoffer Halvorsen (Norway), Imerio Cima (Italy) and Emmanuel Morin (Brittany).

Asgreen, the European under 23 time trial champion, was aggressive throughout the stage. He went clear in an early 11 man break and continued to make the selections, eventually pushing ahead with three kilometres to go with Franck Bonnamour (France) and Pascal Eenkhoorn (Netherlands).

With the bunch chasing hard behind only Asgreen managed to stay out front to the line, taking the win. The race continues on Saturday with a 132.4 kilometre race from Inzinzac-Lochrist to Bignan. The event, known for many years as the youth Tour de France, is open to national teams only and runs until Sunday August 27.
