Benfatto beats Sunderland to win stage 3 of the Tour of China II

by VeloClub

Italy’s Marco Benfatto raced to victory on stage three of the Tour of China II on Thursday, outsprinting the bunch at the end of the 94 kilometre race to Changde Hanshou. The Androni-Sidermec-Bottecchia rider proved quicker than Wednesday’s Australian stage winner Scott Sunderland (IsoWhey Sports SwissWellness), the Lithuanian Maris Bogdanovics (Rietumu Banka – Riga) and the rest of the peloton.

In all 105 riders finished in the main bunch, marking a stage that had little effect on the general classification. Stage one winner Kevin Rivera (Androni-Sidermec-Bottecchia) was 51st and maintains his grip on the race lead. He stays 22 seconds ahead of Mirko Trosino (Wilier Triestina-Selle Italia) and 29 seconds ahead of Mauricio Ortega (RTS – Monton Racing).

The 2.1-ranked event continues Friday with the penultimate stage, a 115.3 kilometre race around Huangshi Daye.
