Benfatto wins again at Tour of China II

by VeloClub

A day after he won stage three of the Tour of China II, Italy’s Marco Benfatto topped the podium once again on Friday’s fourth stage. He finished the 115.3 kilometre race to Huangshi Daye ahead of Androni-Sidermec-Bottecchia teammate Matteo Malucelli, Siarhei Papok (Minsk Cycling Club) and the rest of the main bunch.

Australian rider Scott Sunderland was aiming for victory again after winning on Wednesday, but instead came down in a large crash. He was helped across the line by IsoWhey Sports SwissWellness teammate Neil Van Der Ploeg, trailing in last on the stage.

Van Der Ploeg also put up a video of the finale, showing a chaotic buildup to the sprint and the aftermath of the crash.

Stage one winner Kevin Rivera (Androni-Sidermec-Bottecchia) continues to lead overall. He remains 22 seconds ahead of Mirko Trosino (Wilier Triestina-Selle Italia) and 29 seconds ahead of Mauricio Ortega (RTS – Monton Racing).

The 2.1-ranked event concludes on Saturday.
