Bertazzo best after opening two stages of the Tour of China I

by VeloClub

Italian rider Liam Bertazzo (Willier Triestina-Selle Italia) took over the lead in the Tour of China I on Tuesday, winning stage two from Xiyang to Yunzhuhu. He crossed the line one second clear of a 20 man group, with the Belarusian Siarhei Papok (Minsk Cycling Club) second and Australia’s Cameron Bayly (IsoWhey Sports SwissWellness team) third. Bayly’s compatriot Cameron Meyer (Mitchelton Scott) was fifth.

Bertazzo had started the race well on Monday, netting second on the opening 156 kilometre leg from Fengning to Weichang. Quickest to the line was Androni Sidermec Bottecchia rider Luca Pacioni, while Papok was third. The first ten riders were 11 seconds clear of the main bunch.

With two stages covered Bertazzo is one second ahead of Papok, Bayly and Pacioni. The event comprises five stages in all, with Thursday’s fourth leg an individual time trial.
