Bike thief foiled at Gold Coast cycling event

by CyclingTips

A man has been charged on the Gold Coast after allegedly stealing a bike from the start line of a charity cycling event over the weekend.

Riders were listening to the national anthem at the start of the Oceanway Ride when the man allegedly took a competitor’s bike and rode off, yelling “I win, I win”.

After the crowd realised the bike had been stolen, the rider was tackled to the ground by onlookers.

“A few of us jumped in front of him as he was coming towards us, and we got him off the bike and got it back to the other person,” said Lachlan Boyle, who helped bring the man down. “He actually said, ‘yeah good tackle guys, well done’.”
