Bjarne Riis happy to see Tinkov leaving

Bjarne Riis and Oleg Tinkov have always had a contentious relationship, beginning with Tinkov buying Riis’ cycling team from him in 2013 and then employing the former pro as team manager, until 2015 when Tikov fired Riis over differences in how to run the team.

Always one to stir the pot Tinkov was quite public in his feelings towards Riis, as well as during Riis’ removal from the team.

Now that Tinkov has stated he is leaving cycling at the end of the season, Riis says he is happy to see him go.

“Should I be completely honest, I do not want talk about Tinkov,” Bjarne Riis said in an interview with Danish TV 2 SPORT. “He’s out of my life. Fortunately!

Riis went on to say that it hurt to watch Tinkov run his life’s work, driving riders from the program and hogging the media spotlight for himself.
