The 67th running of the Indiana University men’s Little 500 bicycle race, made famous by the film “Breaking Away,” was won by the Black Key Bulls independent team, while the 30th women’s Little 500 was won by the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority team.
Both races featured dominate performances by the teams that won the series events leading up to race day, giving them the honor of wearing the white jersey.
In the men’s race, the Black Key Bulls attacked rather early on lap 172 of 200 but held their lead all the way to the line. In the women’s race Theta and Alpha Omicron Pi traded blows late into the race, with each taking a turn off the front. However, Theta rode away when it counted, dropping AOPi heading into the final lap and never looking back.
