Boels-Dolmans wins Healthy Ageing Tour TTT

by CyclingTips

Boels-Dolmans won the Healthy Ageing Tour stage two team time trial in Baflo on Thursday, 31 seconds ahead of Cervelo-Bigla and Sunweb, who finished at nearly the same time.

“This team time trial was technical, and we took care of each other during the effort,” said Blaak. “The speed was good. I don’t have anything bad to say although we can always improve. Everyone was strong and no one made any mistakes.”

“Despite the setbacks we’ve had with injuries and sickness, the girls stayed focussed and determined,” Cervelo-Bigla team manager Thomas Campana said. “We only started the race with five riders because of some crashes last week and Nicole got sick so we were down to four for the TTT. With only four riders, they showed they are world class. I am very proud of this team. The 2017 team is one of the best group of riders with regards to quality on and off the bike that I have seen.”

Unlike most team time trials which calculate the general classification on the actual time gaps on the line, the race awarded bonus seconds for the various placings — 35 seconds for first, 28 seconds for second, 26 seconds for third and so on. Consequently, instead of taking over the race leader Anna Van der Breggen only narrowed the gap to Ellen Van Dijk (Sunweb) by seven seconds.

“I think it’s very strange to have a bonus second system for the team time trial,” said Chantal Blaak. “In the individual time trial, they don’t do that, so why here? I’m not happy with that. But it is what it is, and we’ll keep racing for wins like we always do.”
