BORA-Hansgrohe have named its nine-rider squad for the 100th Giro d’Italia, with world champion Peter Sagan again opting for the sunshine at the Tour of California as he focuses on the Tour de France.
Sam Bennett and Matteo Pelucchi will take up the sprinting duties for the team in the team’s hunt for stage wins, which will be more of the focus than contending in the general classification.
It will be the Irishman Bennett’s first Giro and Pelucchi’s second, with both seeking a first Grand Tour stage win.
Rüdiger Selig, Cesare Benedetti and Jan Barta are there to work in the leadout for the sprinters, while Barta will also be a possible contender in the time trials.
Portugal’s road champion José Mendes is the team’s GC rider, with his best overall result in a Grand Tour coming in 2013 at the Vuelta with 22nd. Austrians Gregor Muhlberger, Patrick Konrad and Lukas Postlberger round out the team.
