Bouhanni out of Tour de France

by CyclingTips

Cofidis’ sprinter Nacer Bouhanni will miss the Tour de France due to injuries he suffered to his hand in a fight at a bar last week.

Paris - Nice stage 2

Initially the team said the injury would not prevent him from starting, but since then the team learned that his injuries were not sufficiently treated and required surgery on Tuesday. The injury to his right hand resulted from punching a drunken hotel guest.

Bouhanni was the wild card team’s best chance for a stage win, and possibly contend for the green points jersey.

According to the team he will be replaced by climber Nicolas Edet. Daniel Navarro and Arnold Jeannesson were already selected in that role of seeking stage wins in the mountains.

However the team was largely built around Bouhanni with riders selected specifically to provide a strong lead-out. The sprinting duties will now fall to Geoffrey Soupe.
