Cape Epic queen stage delivers tight racing

by Caley Fretz

The queen stage of Cape Epic set riders against a 111km course with 1,800m of climbing and delivered a tight battle from the men and a further consolidation for the women.

Anika Langvad and Kate Courtney of Investec Songo Specialized took yet another stage win and further padded their overall lead. Overnight second place Team Spurs’ Githa Michiels had to pull out with a fever, further buffering the Specialized team. They now lead the Silverback-KMC duo by over half an hour.

The Centurion Vaude team of Nicola Rohrbach and Daniel Geismayr took a narrow, 17-second stage victory over overall leaders Jaraslav Kulhavy and Howard Grotts of Investec Songo Specialized. The Specialized riders extended their overall lead to 4’09” over Cannondale Factory Racing.
