Cavendish out of Commonwealth Games

Mark Cavendish avoided any serious, long-term injury in his horrific crash at Milan-San Remo, according to a team press release, but will need time to heal a broken rib and injured ankle. He will miss the Commonwealth Games.

The team did not provide a planned return to racing.

“Although it’s ultimately positive news that there’s been no serious damage sustained following the crash I am hugely disappointed to have to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games,” Cavendish said. “I’ll now be working tirelessly on my recovery and will be liaising closely with my team at Dimension Data before announcing a return to racing.”
