Chicchi fastest in Boucles de la Mayenne stage 1

by CyclingTips

Francesco Chicchi (Androni Giocattoli – Sidermec) took the sprint win on the first road stage of the Boucles de la Mayenne, while Thomas Boudat (Direct Energie) and Julien Duval (Equipe Cycliste Armée de Terre) rounded out the podium.

Direct Energie’s Bryan Coquard finished fifth and held onto the race lead after winning last evening’s prologue time trial.

“Bryan Coquard is very strong right now, and his team controlled the race all day,” Chicchi told Directvelo. “We are a small Italian team, but we can win.”

The finale was a technical finish with a lot of turns before the line.

“The strategy was to follow Bryan Coquard in the final sprint,” Chicchi said. “In the last turn, my teammates Marco Benfatto and Davide Viganò helped me to take the wheel of Coquard and with 300 metres to go, I went. I had really good legs today.”
