Coquard wins final stage, Calmejane the overall for Direct Energie at Circuit Cycliste Sarthe

by Mark Zalewski

Bryan Coquard (Direct Energie) won the final stage of the Circuit Cycliste Sarthe, in a sprint ahead of Clément Venturini (Cofidis) and Daniele Bennati (Movistar). The field sprint finish gave his teammate Lilian Calmejane the overall victory.

The main breakaway consisted of Jeroen Meijers (Roompot – Nederlandse Loterij), Jérôme Cousin (Cofidis), Thierry Hupond (Delko Marseille Provence KTM) and Antoine Warnier (WB Vera Classic AquaProtect).

At 10km to go and onto the finish circuits the group had 30 seconds. Cousin attacked alone but was caught on the final lap with the peloton in full flight.

Ruben Wrist (Sport Vlaanderen – Baloise) attacked late to try to foil the sprinters, but they would not be deterred and the field sprint ensued.
